My Story

Participating the London Marathon has long been a dream of mine, and I’m so excited that I will be running this iconic event in memory of my Grandpa. I’ve chosen to run the marathon in support of Guide Dogs, a cause close to both my Grandpa and Granny.

After loosing Grandpa back in 2021, the London Marathon was an event on my mind that I knew I wanted to run in his memory. Grandpa always knew how to make the whole room laugh with his quick wit and jokes. He kept us all going during the lockdowns right up until he passed emailing and texting jokes. He was most of all kind and was always there to support and advise all of his grandchildren, no one's advice was better than his. Grandpa is greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

My Grandparent's support of Guide Dogs first began in 2011 when they rehomed their first retired guide dog, a golden Labrador, Clark. Grandpa adored Clark, so much so that he bought the famously known Clark Mobile (yes, a car!) dedicated for going on walks in the woods together. After Clark's passing, the support continued when they adopted their second guide dog a black Labrador named Douglas. Unfortunately Douglas was not the best fit for my grandparents but he now enjoys a vibrant life with our friends where he enjoys boat trips at the coast and is a cherished figure for customers visiting their shop.

As a fellow dog lover like Grandpa, supporting Guide Dogs in his memory brings me immense joy knowing that the funds raised will help to support those facing sight loss. With 250 people losing their sight in the UK each day, the work they do is crucial in enabling thousands of people with sight loss to lead confident, independent and fulfilling lives. Donations play a crucial role in Guide Dogs being able to continue the work they do.

Here is how your donations can support Guide Dogs:
• £25 could buy a white harness, the iconic symbol of a working guide dog.
• £35 could support a working guide dog partnership for a week.
• £50 could buy an 'Off to school kit' for a puppy.
• £100 could pay for five hours training at a Guide Dogs Training School.
• £140 could buy a starter kit for a new guide dog owner, containing everything they need to start a life with their new guide dog.

If you are able to support my goal of raising £2,000 I will be immensely grateful however big or small the donation. I can’t wait to continue my training and get out there and run the London Marathon! Keep an eye out for updates and thank you for all the support!
