My Story

In 2008 my dad ran the London marathon for Crimestoppers. He did it in three and a half hours, and at the time I was too young to appreciate what an achievement this was. I just remember how passionate he was about serving his community, and his insatiable drive to achieve.

16 years later, I'll be running the same route in memory of him, my mum, and my younger sister. We lost them in 2011, and it was as a result of this that I experienced first-hand the fantastic work that the Laura Centre do.

The Laura Centre works to a holistic approach to respond to the individual needs of bereaved parents, children and families and means that individuals can access a range of bereavement counselling services that will help them through their grief journey. They were there for me and my family when we needed support, and I'm ready to do my best to give something back to them.

I ran the Brighton half marathon back in October 2021 for CALM. This was originally meant to be a full marathon, but my mental health at the time wasn't great so I hadn't trained enough to do the full 26.2 miles. So London will be my first full marathon, and I'm going to ensure I'm ready this time. I'll be running a smattering of different events in the build up to the big one in April.

First, I ran the Big Half in London on 3rd September. I ran it in 1:40:33.

Then, the Leicester half marathon on 1st October. I did it in 1:42:18. This run meant a lot to me, as the Laura Centre is based in Leicester, I was born in Leicester, and my dad was stationed in Leicester for most of his career. Plus they also have the best football club in the world.

Next, the Polar Night Half Marathon on 6th January 2024. This was in Tromsø, Norway. The temperature could get as cold as -20°C! It was sub-zero when I ran and I did it in 2:09:22.

Next up is the London marathon in April.

I'll try my best to keep this page updated with different events and milestones as they come. And if you're feeling especially nosey, you can check out my strava which should be linked.

Thank you for reading - I best get my trainers on!
