My Story

In a sentence... my father ended up receiving palliative care in a Marie Curie hospice in Edinburgh in 2007. By this point, myself and the rest of the family were emotionally spent and only wished for my dad to be cared for and as comfortable as he could be. This is where Marie Curie came into the story, at the time when my family's need was highest and we were at our lowest. The care my dad received was priceless, just to have that support and to know that he was in such safe and caring hands was an indescribable relief.

What's taken me so long to do this? I wanted the challenge to be worthy and significant enough to warrant asking people to part with their hard-earned money, and so that I could have a hope of raising a meaningful amount of money for Marie Curie. It's not about repaying a debt, so to speak, but I want the challenge to reflect in some way the magnitude of that time in mine and my dad's life. I'll be turning 40 this year, just 6 days after the marathon!.. so it feels like a number of long held ambitions have become aligned and that the time to raise money and get my running shoes on is now.
