My Story
Hi all!
First of all thank you so much for being here! It means a lot.
In June 2020, 3 months after giving birth to my second child and in the middle of the pandemic my whole world came crushing down. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The disease that took my Mum's life. I was 35 at the time, devastated and petrified. It was the darkest time of my life.
I discovered a lump while breastfeeding my daughter. Fortunately, encouraged by my husband, I had it checked and was immediately referred to a breast care unit, which resulted in my cancer being detected early. I was lucky to receive an exceptional treatment on the NHS that I will be forever grateful for.
It took months of countless scans, blood tests, chemotherapy, hormone blocking treatment and and surgery and I was finally given the all clear in January 2021.
I started running a couple of months later as I felt the need to move my body again and regain some fitness. I soon realised that running was so much more than just a physical activity. Mentally it brought a much needed relief from all the stress I experienced and it gave me focus as I trained for my first half marathon.
I am still running today and I am so excited to share that I have been given an opportunity to run The London Marathon in 2024. It is the first time that I’ll be running this distance and I am excited and nervous at the same time. I really can’t wait.
I will be taking on this challenge with the hope of raising funds for Breast Cancer Now. An incredible charity that supports the breast cancer community and works tirelessly to create a real change for those living with and beyond breast cancer but also those that will sadly be diagnosed in the future.
Breast cancer was certainly an unwanted guest but it brought truly incredible people into my life. I made wonderful friends but the nature of these encounters also means loss. As I run I often think of the beautiful ladies that weren’t as fortunate as me. Breast cancer still kills 31 women every day in the UK alone. I am forever grateful and aware of the privilege of not only being here today but also feeling well enough to train and take on this challenge.
Thank you so much again for reading my story and supporting the cause. Please share, donate if you can and don't forget to regularly check your chest!!
With love
