My Story
As many of you know my mum was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma 5 years ago.
She was incrediby lucky to take part in clinical trial giving her access to some of the best treatment options, including a stem cell transplant. Without this her prognosis would have been very different.
Stem cell transplants offer some people the possibility of a cure and others like my mum, the chance to live a life that is very close to normal. They are a remarkable example of the power of science and research. To watch they don't look like anything like that - it just looked like another blood transfusion!!
Sadly not everyone has this option or stem cell donors can't be found for them. I am forever grateful to research scientists, oncologists, haematologists, nurses, donors and charities like Anthony Nolan for funding and continuing to invest in stem cell transplants - so my sister Meg and I are both running London Marathon for them to help more people access this life saving tool!
I'm being a bit ridiculous doing it but I know if I can harness even an essence of the strength and resiliance that mum had during her months in hospital to never give up, never complain (almost) and still laugh along the way then it'll be a breeze!!
Every donation will mean so much to all of us and even more to other people that are living with blood cancers and need the support of Anthony Nolan.
I promise that I'll run my heart out and each donation will help me get over that line. Knowing me there will be a lot of tears and hopefully not because I'll need to get my hip operated on again!!
Lots of love
Anna xx

Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
