My Story

Two years ago, I unexpectedly lost someone very important to me, my Step Dad Dave.

Dave was diagnosed with cancer only twelve days before he passed away at the age of 53, something I'm still trying to come to terms with.

There are lots of things we all miss about him. He was so full of fun, and never missed an opportunity to tell jokes (even though we'd often groan as we had already heard the same Dad joke 20 times) or pull silly pranks on people. He just loved to make people laugh and smile.

He was also full of adventure and had such a zest for life. There wasn't an offshore trip home he wasn't up to something - whether it was hiking in the Scottish hills; away in his much loved VW campervan; booking trips to climb Mont Blanc or doing some sort of crazy adventure. My favourite memory of us is Munro bagging together 💜

If there is someone that really made the most of each day, it was Dave.

Pancreatic Cancer is facing a cancer emergency and is one of the most underfunded cancers in the UK.

Half of people who are diagnosed die within 3 months. This isn't fair. People like Dave deserve better than this.

So with this in mind, I've decided to run the London Marathon in April 2024 for Pancreatic Cancer UK, in Dave's memory and to raise awareness about Pancreatic Cancer.

I'm not just running for Dave though. I'm running for lots of other people too.

I'm running for the people who are currently fighting Pancreatic Cancer; the families and friends of people impacted by this cancer; the special people I've met along the way through volunteering for PCUK who have lost people to this disease, and the phenomenal PCUK team who do so much to raise awareness and support people impacted by Pancreatic Cancer.

Together (and with your help) we can change the prognosis people face so that people like my Step Dad don't have to go through this.

Any donation means so so so so much to me. I am so grateful for the ongoing support I've had from you all in the last two years. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

This one is for you Step Dad, I hope I can make you proud Davie J 💜
