David Dadds fundraising for Dementia Concern

My Story

Dementia affects lots of people and their families. It is not until it affects your own, that you start to understand it more and realise how wide spread it is. My Dad was fit and healthy for most of his life, however suffered from Vascular Dementia and Alzheimers in his final years. It was extremely tough for him and the family to cope with and he passed last year. I would therefore love to raise some money to help support others going through similar unfortunate circumstances.

As a keen SHORT distance runner and 1,500 meter school champion, I always thought I'd run the London marathon one day. I was told by a coach at school, that I'd be best to wait until I was older to run this distance, as if I did it then, I'd probably be put off running for a while. Hopefully now at 46 I am more grown up?! I've run many halves (apparently the Medoc jog and drink Marathon can't be counted) so this is a great opportunity to take part in one of the most iconic marathon events in the world. It was great that as a family a few years ago, we got to support my sister Jenny doing it (Carrie, you are next?!).

To start my fundraising, I held an event at the Blue Groove with a tombola and an auction which amazingly raised over £3,000! I'd like to thank Mum and Sara, the BG team, Blakey for being a hilarious auctioneer, and all the people and businesses that generously supported it - definitely a day to remember.

So if you haven't already and fancy donating to this great cause, it would be massively appreciated.

Now, time to start training...

Thanks

Dave
