Dr Liz and Rich Iveson
My Story
After 29 years of saying I'll do this I'm actually doing it... training going well but now I need your help and support to push me through !
I'm running the London Marathon 2024 for myself, my family and for all my amazing patients - all who are at different stages of their own marathon journies every single day. I regularly talk about the importance of consistency, having a goal and knowing why you want to achieve it, taking small steps, always trying to move forward, not let the bad days overwhelm you and just aim to do a little more each day. Running for this brilliant charity and hopefully finishing the marathon is my way of practicing what I preach and giving something back. This will be a huge challenge for me but nothing compared to the daily challenges members of my family and my patients are having to face every day.
The last few years has brought a lot of close family illness and has really tested my own resilience and affected my mental and physical well being. This marathon training is reminding me of the other important lesson I say to my patients families and those I work with - you have to put your own oxygen mask on first in order to be able to help others. Asking for help and getting the right people in your corners is another one of my mantras and I'm lucky to have my brother Rich running with me and holding me accountable when I don't want to get up to do my training and make excuses.
Brain Research UK funds research into many of the areas that have and are still directly affecting my family and my patients- traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, brain tumours, dementia, Parkinsons disease, multiple sclerosis and many other neurological diseases. The work they fund is so important and potentially life changing for many.
If we get up to £1500 Rich will run next to me in a fancy dress costume :)
PLEASE sponsor us!
Below is more about the charity's work and on their website are links to the studies they are currently funding- have a look and then please give them some money and me some more pressure to do this!!
Brain Research UK is the UK’s leading national funder dedicated to research into neurological conditions. They fund vital research to increase understanding, improve diagnosis and treatment, and work towards the prevention of neurological conditions, to help people who suffer with them live better, longer. Their funding is currently focused on three priority research areas: Brain tumours, Brain and spinal cord injury, and Headache and facial pain. These are areas where there is a large unmet patient need that is not reflected in current funding levels. By concentrating efforts on these three areas, they can have a more significant impact.
Help me to make a difference - your support means that we can continue to fund life-changing research so that people living with neurological conditions can live better longer.
