My Story

Having seen first hand the difference having a home can make to a person's life, I'm so immensely proud to be running the London Marathon for Shelter. Homelessness has always been an issue close to my heart. I have spent many winters' volunteering in a night shelter and so many of the clients I've met over the years have left a lasting impression on me. I am running this race for them. When you see the faces behind homelessness you realise it doesn't discriminate. I've worked with male and female clients, from teenagers to pensioners. Clients from a variety of nationalities, religions and backgrounds, all with different life stories and many in employment. I've met talented people, funny people, clever, outgoing, hard working, studious, humble, shy, kind, sporty, interesting people. People just like you and me. And I've seen that homelessness can affect anyone. I've also been lucky enough to see the success stories once people are helped back onto their feet. I've seen people get back into a home of their own and the transformative effect it has on their lives. I know the importance of a charity like Shelter. Having a safe, warm place to call home is something so many of us take for granted but is something so many people in this country are lacking right now. Men, women and even children are facing homelessness or housing crises every day. Shelter is there for them and can make a real difference. That's why I'm raising money for them and why I would love it if you could sponsor me as I take on this mammoth task of running a marathon! I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous! So if you could send me some good vibes on the 21st April as well as a few pounds in sponsorship I'd be eternally grateful! Much love to you all, Lizzie xx
