Em & Liz London Marathon 2024

My Story

On 21st April 2024, we will be running the London Marathon for the Dudley Group NHS Charity.

We have been friends for 12 years and started running together 2 years ago. Whilst this started with socialable 5kms, last year we decided to challenge ourselves and enter the Birmingham half marathon. Having both joked at the end of the 13.1 milies in May this year about running the same distance again, a week later Liz decided it would be a good idea to enter us into the London marathon ballot. And here we are...

This will be the biggest physical challenge we have faced, but we are excited and ready to push ourselves to join the 1% club!

We have decided to raise money for the Dudley Group NHS Charity. Liz qualified as a Nurse in August 2022 and currently works on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Russells Hall. Patients are admitted from A&E 24 hours a day, 7 days a week onto AMU when they are acutely unwell. Liz, alongside the other nurses, care support workers and doctors on AMU treat up to 92 patients at any time with a wide variety of medical conditions.

Through Liz's experience, it has become clear how much AMU would benefit from extra funding, to enhance patient experience. We are therefore hoping for the money we raise to go towards new ward furntiture and holistic equipment to improve patient comfort during their admission.

We apprecate anything you are able to give to support the charity.

Thanks so much and hopefully see you at the finish line!

More about the charity:

The Dudley Group NHS Charity supports Russells Hall, Dudley Guest and Corbett Hospitals which provide care to a population of 450,000 people. Most will know someone close to them who have been cared for in these hospitals and have experienced the wonderful care provided by NHS staff within our trust. This charity enhances our local NHS trust by providing comfort, equipment and facilities to patients beyond what is normally provided - improving their recovery and overall experience.
