Erica's fundraising for Macmillan

My Story

Macmillan is a charity that helps to make cancer a fact of life, rather than an end of it, and they have been there for countless people throughout my life. This is my attempt to thank the charity and return the favour by offering my support through fundraising.

In her early 40s (at a similar age to I am now), my Mum died on 28th April, 1986, and during her illness, Macmillan nurses made a massive difference to our ability to cope as a family – making my Mum’s last years easier.

In his early 80s, in March 2024, my Dad was also diagnosed with cancer, with Macmillan offering support.

On 21st April, 2024, I will be running the London Marathon to raise funds to support this vital charity. That's one week before the 38th anniversary of my Mum's death, and just two weeks after my Dad's death.

When my Mum was ill, Macmillan supported our young family. When friends have been ill (some recovering, some with less good news), Macmillan has been there to ease the way. And they do it thanks to generous donations.

Running 26 miles is going to be quite a challenge for me. A 2022 covid infection wiped me out for almost a year; I have a dodgy knee after falling over in the garden; and I'm a heck of a lot less fit than I was in 2020. Any donations will be vital to Macmillan, they'll also give me a good morale boost as I slog my way through months of training. So thank you in advance for your support.
