My Story

Erin and Lucy are taking on the epic challenge of running the London Marathon on 21st April 2024.

Earlier this year Lucy's dad Ken was diagnosed with stage 4 advanced lung cancer. It was during this life changing diagnosis that the family first learnt about the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Charity, through their website initially and then their patient information leaflet. Ken is currently fighting this cruel disease with the grit, determination and positivity that he is well known for. We are all very proud of him and want to show him how much we care about him .

Ken has inspired Lucy and Erin to run for him and this amazing charity. He is a much loved husband, dad and grandad. He is always the first to step forward to help others with a smile on his face. As one of Lucy's lifelong friends, Erin wants to support Lucy to run this marathon for Ken and for everybody affected by this cruel disease.

Lucy and Erin would like to give back and raise the profile of early diagnosis of lung cancer. Over the next few months we will be fundraisng through different events, inclding a Record Breakers night in January to raise the profile and hopefully lots of money for this fantastic cause. Pleasse join us in any way you can through a donation, attending an event or by making sure that any cough lasting more than 3 weeks is fully checked out and x-ray completed.

The Roy Castle lung cancer foundation is the only charity in the UK, wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer, one of the biggest global health problems claiming more lives than any other cancer in the UK. With around 45000 new cases diagnosed each year, the outlook for lung cancer patients is exteremely poor. It has the worst survival rate of all cancers. Almost 80% of patiets die within the first year following diagnosis and shockingly 1 in 3 will die within the first 90 days. Every 15 minutes someone in the UK dies of lung cancer. Lung Cancer is the UK's biggest cancer killer in both men and women. It kills more people than breast, colo-rectal and prostate cancer combined, yet receives only 6% of research funding. This is simply not good enough and we should all expect better. By suporting this charity we can all help to bring the funding it needs.
