My Story
My name is Gemma and I am a train driver. Recently at work I had a person die by suicide whilst I was driving my train.
Although initially it was a complete shock for this sad event to have happened, I took some time off for myself to process what effect this had had on me. It was during this time that I took up running, and using the time to clear my head and enjoy my surroundings was when I decided to try make a difference and hopefully do something to benefit others and if I can raise some money for Samaritans who work so tirelessly to help people in a time of need, a time of crisis and support then that would be so amazing.
Samaritans also work closely with the rail industry and do such vital work not only on the railway but all over the country.
Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy, and Samaritans vision is that fewer people die by suicide.
Suicide and mental health are still a massive stigma in the UK. Samaritans also work tirelessly to try and stop this stigma. They are there for people 24/7 no judgment and to talk about anything. You can call 116 123 to speak to a volunteer any time.
I have pledged to raise £2000 which will enable Samaritans to train 10 new volunteers to take those potentially life saving calls.
