My Story

On the 23rd April we drove back from a family trip and started listening to the London Marathon on the radio. Suddenly Dave felt completely inspired and by the time we'd reached our destination he had managed to convince me (Gem) to enter us both into the ballot for 2024 and that he was going to train for it.

Now, anyone that knows Dave will testify that he was a takeaway loving, chocoholic with a hatred for exercise and yet, he was true to his word. Fast forward 3 months and he is 2 stone lighter, running several times a week and actually really enjoying it!

Against the odds Dave was lucky enough to get a ballot place (sadly me and my Brother In Law didn't) and he is determined to run the full 26.2 miles. Fortunately I was lucky enough to be offered a charity place directly through the National Autistic Society so we will now be training, fundraising and running together!

The National Autistic Society is a cause very close to both of our hearts. I have autistic Siblings and our eldest is in the process of being assessed for autism. I also work as a Learning Support Assistant and work with many autistic students. Autism is a big part of our lives and we want to raise money and awareness to help support other families through the challenges and discover the beauty and unique perspectives that being autistic can bring. We hope to show our children, family and my students that anything is possible with the right support, determination and tools 😊

We would like to thank the people who generously donated to Dave's individual page. This has been moved over by Enthuse to this page but does not show the names of the donors. However we do have a list of people who have donated so we can thank you once we have completed our run.
