My Story
Next year, I am challenging myself to run the 2024 London marathon to raise money for the charity Against Breast Cancer UK. They are an amazing charity who provide funding for research into earlier diagnosis and treatments to increase survival rates among breast cancer patients.
I chose this charity in particular as in 2010, my mum sadly passed away from breast cancer herself. Unfortunately, she did not have access to the medical care that we all benefit from today, and fought a long battle over many years. I believe charities such as this are fundamental in the fight against breast cancer today.
Earlier this year, I found out that I have inherited the BRCA-2 gene from my mum, meaning that the chances of developing breast cancer myself increase from 13% in the general population to 55-72%. It is thanks to advanced research into early diagnosis that preventative treatment can take place to reduce my risk, which is the kind of work that this charity supports.
I would be hugely grateful to anyone who chooses to donate to ABC UK through my fundraising page, so that this charity can continue to support myself and the thousands of other women facing the same challenge and help us all beat this dreadful disease.
