My Story
In the photographs at the top are my family, the people that have always mattered the most to me.
Sadly three of them; my Mum, Dad (top left) and Brother (top right) are no longer with us. And so I will be taking part in the London Marathon to raise funds for The M S Society in memory of my family.
In 1997 Mum was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis which over the next few years developed into Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Over the course of 13 years Mums health, cognitive and motor functions gradually declined until she eventually lost her battle with this disease just before Christmas in 2010.
Mums final year was a difficult one, not only was her health failing rapidly but she also lost her sister Joyce ( Mum to my cousin David - right in middle photo) to MND, another cruel disease. Mum put on as brave a face as she could and remained as positive as she was able.
Dad and my brother Paul were both keen runners; Dad completing the London Marathon twice in his 60's and Paul completing it many times including on one occasion for The MS Society.
Sadly we lost them both in 2020 and since then my husband Mick ( left in middle photo) and I have completed challenges in their memory and some smaller personal achievements simply dedicated to them.
Now it is time to honour Mum, the one who looked after us and looked out for us for all those years, by raising funds for this very deserving charity.
There is currently no cure for MS so all funding is vital for reasearch as well as treatments to help control the condition and ease the symptoms.
I feel incredibly proud to be able to take part in this iconic event to honour my Mum, follow in my family's footsteps and to raise funds for a personal and important charity.
Please consider donating if you are able.
Many thanks in advance
