A brighter, more inclusive future for the Deaf community

My Story
"I have now caught a bug - the running bug - and I plan to continue with many more 10k races in the pipeline.
Who knows, I may even manage a half marathon or even a full marathon one day!"

My name is Helen and I would love to take you on a journey through my running, that is filled with resilience, pride and relentless passion to make a difference in the Deaf community. All my life I have attended schools for Deaf children where I nutured a profound sense of cultural identity and pride.
I have been running for more than four years and I have taken on an ambitious goal of training for the London Marathon - 26 miles or 42 kms - in April 2024 to support British Deaf Association's mission. It's a big leap from where I started but my passion for running ignited after completing the Great Scottish 10k in Glasgow for BDA in 2019.
During my nine years career at BDA, I have seen many Deaf BSL users experiencing barriers on different levels - communication, language, information and knowledge. The stark reality is that many suffer language deprivation which takes a severe toll on their health, mental well-being and overall quality of life.
I invite you to join me on this incredible journey. Your support is not just about cheering me on as I conquer the London Marathon and turn dreams into reality. It's about joining a collective effort to empower Deaf individuals to thrive, to break down the walls that restrict communication and to open a world of opportunities where Deaf Equality, Access and Freedom of Choice remain supreme.
Thank you for being a part of my journey and for standing with me. Your donations will help us to support all of our community from our babies, young peoploe, adults and our older generations. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for the Deaf community.
