My Story

Hi, I'm James....

For those that don't know (why would you to be fair...), I'm a keen runner having completed 4 marathons so far. But never the London Marathon. The pièce de résistance of marathons, some may say...

Except this time, I'm running in aid of ME Research UK. That stands for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (also refered to as CFS). More info on what exactly ME is here: https://www.meresearch.org.uk/what-is-me/

In September 2022 my fiancée Katie (27 at the time) was diagnosed with ME & we realised quickly that research into the life altering illness is grossly underfunded as well as lacking in understanding of the causes & best treatments. In searching for help & answers to try and regain Katie's independence, we learned that while there is no 'cure', the illness can be greatly improved & even beaten the more we can uncover treatments and/or medecines, as well as causes, through biomedical research.

But right now, there just isn't enough accesible or in depth understanding of the chronic & debilitating illness. There are estimated to be up to 250,000 people in the UK right now suffering with ME in varying degrees that need all the help they can get.

SO in short... any donations at all would be really appreciated to help whoever we can. Thank you!

Here's what ME Research UK have to say about their work:

The principal aim of ME Research UK is to commission and fund high-quality scientific (biomedical) research into the causes, consequences and treatment of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (also known as ME/CFS). This is a debilitating illness which affects between 120,000 and 240,000 people in the UK, but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised.
