Running for Helen McDermott - Supporting Alzheimer's Research UK

My Story

Myself and Dermot McDermott are reaching out to you with a heartfelt request and an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by dementia. On April 21st, I will be running 26.2 miles in the iconic London Marathon in honour of my mother, Helen McDermott, who is courageously battling dementia.

For those who know my mother, you understand the devastating toll that dementia has taken on her health. Once the vibrant centre of our family - a loving mother, devoted wife, caring sibling, and a cherished friend - she is now facing the challenges of this debilitating disease.

The decline in her health has been incredibly difficult for our family, and it serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for research and support for those affected by Alzheimer's and related dementias. That's why I have decided to run the London Marathon, not only as a personal challenge but also as a way to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's Research UK.

Achnowledging the Caregivers

We also want to take a moment to express gratitude to the incredible caregivers at Haviland House, a dedicated dementia care home in Worthing, where my mother receives compassionate care. Their dedication and support have been invaluable during this challenging time. This run is not just about raising funds for research but also about thanking those who make a difference in the lives of individuals with dementia every day.

How You Can Make a Difference

Your generous contribution will directly support Alzheimer's Research UK in their ground-breaking research initiatives. Every step I take will be a stride towards a future where families no longer have to endure the heartbreak of dementia.

Thank you for considering our request, and for being part of this important cause. Your support means the world to us and countless others facing the challenges of dementia.

With heartfelt gratitude,

James x
