My Story

Jayne's Story "Why I run..."

I started running in Lockdown 1.0 due to a severe dip in my mental health. It was a c2-5k job and it was hard work. I honestly believed that my body was just not built for running, I now know that is complete bollocks.

Running has taught me so much about myself and given me a safe space to test out some new methods of dealing with negative thinking. It is a therapy that I use along with antidepressants and other self-care activities (like sleeping, reading, and hugs) to keep my mind in good, clear and calm condition.

Last year, I fundraised for the Scottish Association for Mental Health, I bought my place but wanted to support this local organisation and be more open about my challenges. This year, I am running for the NSPCC an organisation that helps kids and young people deal with traumatic events affecting them (often the first line of support through their childline and therapy service). I hope that the money raised will go some way to helping some kids to have the support they need to deal with their trauma and to have the right to have a childhood with good mental health.

Alison's Story "Why I'm running a marathon again!"

As we approach London Marathon 2024 I am reflecting on how I got here, after saying never again! What can I say... I just get carried away.

I hope to improve on last time. Not necessarily in timing, but in mindset. Last time I aimed to get to the start line, and didn't understand the whole experience. I found it quite lonely and kinda pointless. Everyone said to think about why you are doing it, your charity, enjoy the atmosphere. And this time I plan to.

Between raising money for an undeniably good cause, and having a great friend by my side, I intend to be smiling all the way round!

And we have a great community of Women's Running podsquad looking out for us too. I'll be employing all the tips I gained from our Paris half marathon trip last year.

If you can support us in getting to our fundraising target we would be VERY grateful. Donations of all sizes are warmly welcomed and greatly appreciated!

Our page's donations will be sent direct to the NSPCC in a fast and secure way. Its efficient, saves time and cuts costs for the charity. Let's do this!
