My Story
Hello!
Like many, I have often watched the London Marathon with massive respect for all taking part and their individual journeys to get there. Wondering if maybe one day, I would be on the start line too, as ‘it’s kind of on the bucket list!’.
Well, I decided that 2024 was the year to run a marathon and am thrilled to have been awarded a charity place to run on behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Even more of a special event this year as the RNLI celebrates 200 years of lifesaving!
For those that my not know, I am a volunteer crew member at RNLI Gravesend Lifeboat Station, one of four RNLI stations that operate on the River Thames, the first stations to specifically cover a river rather than estuarial waters or the sea. Our normal area of operation stretches from The Thames Barrier eastwards some 26 miles east covering both sides of the River Thames to Canvey Island, one of the largest areas of shoreline covered by all the 238 RNLI stations.
We launch on service from Royal Terrace Pier, Gravesend, the station is fully crewed and ready to launch 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All kit, training and equipment is funded primarily by extremely kind donations. It cost £188 million for the RNLI to run in 2022, all of which was generously donated by the public.
It would be absolutely incredible if you would be kind enough to sponsor me to run the London Marathon 2024 to raise funds for the RNLI, your kind generosity powers our lifesaving!!
Massive thanks in advance and see you on the finish line!!
