My Story

Jewish Care is the largest health and social care organisation serving the Jewish community in London and the South East.

Jewish Care provides a wide range of specialist support services for older people, including Holocaust survivors and refugees, people living with physical disabilities and ongoing mental health needs. Their services include residential care homes, retirement living schemes, centres for people living with dementia and community centres, befriending Meals on Wheels and Jami.

Three of my great grandparents were cared for in Jewish Care’s Vi and John Rubens home and I’ve seen first-hand the importance of the services Jewish Care provides. In 2020 when the unprecedented Covid pandemic hit, I spent some time volunteering in Anita Dorfman House at Sandringham and was inspired by the employees and volunteers who worked tirelessly to support Jewish families and continue to do so.

The cost to provide these services is significant and continues to grow. They cannot maintain this level of care, let alone meet the increased demand, without the support from our community. Jewish Care now need to raise a total of £20 million every year to continue the great work they are doing.

I have challenged myself to run the London marathon and raise £4000 for Jewish Care so that they can continue making a difference to the 10,000 lives they touch every week.

Running the marathon will be a huge test having undergone ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair surgery back in February 2022, but I’m excited to start my marathon training journey whilst raising money for such an important charity.

I have linked my Strava, so you can follow my training over the next few months below. I’ll be running on the 21st April 2024. Any support and donations are greatly appreciated.
