My Story

My twin sister Rom was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2021. Thankfully she is now out the other side and got her 'NED / No evidence of disease' in summer 2022.

There are no words for the horror Rom endured throughout her cancer treatment, everyone's body reacts differently and Rom ended up with neutropenic sepsis and being admitted to A&E every time she had chemo. Rom's type of breast cancer (triple positive) also meant that she has to be put into the medical menopause which has additional, awful side effects and may mean she will face challenges with fertility in the future.

Anyone who's been through cancer will know the agony of hair loss, the seemingly endless hours in hospital waiting rooms, administrative f*ck ups and admin, body pain, the mental health struggles ... the list goes on and on.

I'm so incredibly proud of how Rom overcame and continues to overcome all of the challenges thrown her way but most of all I'm just so grateful she's ok.

On the night she got diagnosed, we were lying in her flat in a state of horror and shock and I made the promise that I'd run the London Marathon to raise money for a breast cancer charity, and so now that we're luckily out the other side, here I am.

We've chosen Breast Cancer Now, specifically because of their focus on research and on secondary / stage 4 breast cancer, which is often underfunded and less spoken about. There are so many incredible charities that we've come across in the past few years but as science is ultimately what saved Rom's life, my hope is that the money raised can contribute to vital research that means more people get more time with their loved ones.

My motivation for this marathon is for all the people who won't get to hug their loved one on the finish line.

I'm so grateful for any donation, thank you!! x
