My Story
In December 2021, Gordon 'Gus' Barkass-Williamson, my Poppa, was diagnosed with Bowel cancer and managed to keep it at bay with treatment and lifestyle changes to enable him create even more amazing memories and share words of wisdom along with precious times as a family that year.
The end of 2022/2023 my family received the devastating news that my Poppa's bowel cancer had returned. Despite his valiant fight and my Nana incredible care along with our families efforts and presence, we knew that it was time to provide him with the care and support he deserved. That's when Marie Curie home stepped in and changed our lives forever. Their level of care, community, and love was unimaginable. They not only provided Poppa with vital nursing care but also supported our entire family through this difficult time.
I am determined to give back to this incredible charity by running the London Marathon on the 21st April 2024 as part of #TeamMarieCurie taking to the streets of London and running 26.2 miles in aid of Marie Curie. We want to raise valuable funds and awareness for their life-changing work. Also due to my Poppas appreciation for fitness, sport and determination to ‘use it or lose it’ we are ready to stretch ourselves mentally and physically to give back along with Poppas inner strength!
