My Story

Hi everyone,

My name is Laura and I'm running the London Marathon for Parkinson's UK. This is a charity that is very close to my heart because my dad has Parkinson's.

Parkinson's UK has been a wonderful support to me and my family because they offer support, advice and help on issues that matter, everything from the latest research to financial and practical help. They do an amazing job working tirelessly in the background throughout the year.

My hope is to raise vital and much needed funds for local community Parkinson's services like Speaclist Nurses as there is great shortage of these services within the local community and to help fund the incredible research trials that are happening right now.

However, I can't do this alone so I'm asking for the support and generosity of my wonderful family, friends and colleagues to support me. Wheather it's attending one of my charity events or making a donation no matter how big or small this will all help towards my target to run the marathon and raise vitally needed funds for Parkinson's UK.

Everyday, we are getting closer to finding a cure for Parkinson's and in recent years treatment has improved significantly, but there is still much work to be done. This is why I want to play a small part towards helping raise funds for innovative new research and treatments that are happening everyday and hopefully one day ending Parkinson's altogether.

Parkinson's is a very complex and challenging illness that's affects people in many different ways this is one of the many reasons why it is so hard to treat and manage.

I started my running journey just a few short years ago. Initially, running 5 and 10 k organised Charity events, it's only recently over the last two years, I've began to run much longer distances. Initially, I ran to get fitter but now I just love to run and so I thought why not put this to even better use and raise money for a good cause that means so much to me.

Earlier this year, I ran the Birmingham half marathon in aid of Parkinson's UK and I raised over £1000, which was an amazing achievement. I was absolutely blown away by all the support  and donations I received from family, friends and colleagues. Everyone spurred me on to run the furthest I have ran to date and now I'm taking on the big one, The London Marathon. I can hardly believe I'm doing it. I feel so privileged and humbled to be able to have the chance to run The London Marathon and for such an amazing charity.

It would mean the world to me to have the support and donations to be able to complete what will certainly be one of the greatest challenges of my life. I will be forever grateful and thankful to anyone who can support me with this.

Many thanks in advance and stay tuned for my training updates on social media!

Much love
