Lauren Birch
My Story
6 months ago, a sudden urge came over me to enter the ballot for the London Marathon. I am not a runner at all, I dabbled at school but nothing after leaving! So god knows where this came from.
3 months later while a little tipsy on holiday, I got an email saying ‘You’re in Lauren’. The first thing I said was “shit”. I was excited, nervous, scared and not sure how I got so lucky on my first try.
I started my training and it was going well until I kept getting shin splints which was really deflating as I couldn’t run and I thought I would have to defer my place.
So I joined the gym, met @okfitnx, he taught me how to run and breathe properly and now with only 6 months to go I want to share with you all that I WILL be running the London Marathon in April 2024!
I am amazed at my progress so far and what my body is capable of, I’ve gone from only being able to run for 2 minutes before getting out of breathe to being able to run for nearly an hour with minimal breaks in the space of 2 months.
Huge thanks to my friends and family for their support and especially to Tom for putting up with my constant talks of running, buying new things, massage gunning the shit out of my legs and for supporting me 100000% from the moment I said I wanted to enter.
I will be running for Keech Hospice Care who provide free, specialist care for adults in Luton and Bedfordshire, and children from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes living with a life-limiting illness.
I have been supporting and fundraising for Keech since I was at Brownies and don’t intend to stop anytime soon, so if you can spare a little something then please take a minute to visit my fundraising page and make a donation!
