About
Hi I'm Lucette. At the end of 2023 I was 50 but at the start of 2023 I was determined to loose weight and get fitter so that I could enter my older age in the right shape. I had the idea to run 5k every day (I should add that I'm not a runner and had never run 5k before) I'm proud to say though that I did it I have run 5k every day since the beginning of February 2023 and I'm still going. I have lost around 2 stone & feel so much better. I started to get more ambitious and some days I ran more than 5k doing 5 miles, then 10 and now I have done 3 half marathons and 4 marathons including London last year (2024). I enjoyed London so much that I desperately wanted to run it again in 2025. I didn't get a place in the ballot so I worked really hard to try to get a 'Good for age' spot. Luckily I did and I'm so excited to be running again and I hope I can raise some more money for Guide Dogs just like I did last year.
Being visually impaired myself I have been lucky enough to have been supported by lots of charities over the years and this represents my chance to give back. I wanted to run for a charity that supported visually impaired people.
I had my first Guide Dog Dillon as a teenager and thanks to the confidence, companionship and independence he gave me I was able to leave home and go off to Uni. My second Guide Dog Zoey guided me and my babies safely and successfully through the early years of Motherhood. Attending baby and toddler groups and the first days of school with a lick and a waggy tail. Together Zoey and I landed our first job as a TA in a school and suddenly hundreds of local children were touched by the magic of Guide Dogs. My 3rd Guide dog Parker (whose with me in the photo above) stepped into Zoey's shoes as she retired and Parker continued to come to work with me in local schools. He became an unofficial therapy dog as so many small children were calmed or reassured by his presence. Having a Guide Dog by my side throughout my adulthood has been life changing and life enhancing. I don't think I could have achieved what I have without them and I will be forever grateful to The Guide Dogs For the Blind Association for training and providing these dogs. I know the Charity is a large charity and some people aren't keen to donate because they feel the charity is rich enough but I don't think people realise how much money is involved in providing a Guide Dog to a blind person.
Not only training expenses but the charity pays for everything, all vets bills, all food bills for all it's working Guide dogs. The Charity also does a lot of other work in campaigning for the rights of blind people and works hard to provide services to visually impaired children and their families too. All services which me and my visually impaired children have benefited from. When my children had difficulties at times during their education journeys there were experts and advisors at the end of the phone that gave support and advice.
Therefore I'm excited to take this opportunity to raise some money for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and I hope you are inspired by my story and might be able to help me in reaching my fundraising target.
