My Story

I am participating in the London Marathon in April 2024 and have decided to set up a fundraiser. My chosen charity is the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

I've chosen this charity because it's personal to me. In recent years, I've battled with mental health challenges, experiencing feelings of hopelessness, low self-worth, and even feelings of depression & anxiety. It's important to shed light on these issues and support others going through similar struggles.

People who know me would describe me as the class clown, always looking to act like an idiot to make others laugh. Even at my lowest, I was still acting like this to show everyone that I was okay when in reality I wasn't. Check in on your friends! You never know who’s doing the same!

Unfortunately, 1 in 5 people will have suicidal thoughts and around 200,000 attempts are made each year. Suicide is the biggest killer to men under the age of 50. 75% of the suicides in the UK are also men. But it doesn’t just affect men, woman are also affected. The suicide rate in women under 24 has seen the steepest increase since records began.

Now, what will your donations go towards? CALM will use all donations to help keep the phone lines open as the number of calls has been increasing over the years. They receive 28,000 calls each month and the average cost to fund a life saving chat on their help line is £8. So if you choose to donate, whatever the amount, you could be helping one more person  battle with the worse time of their life.

Thank you for reading this far and if you do choose to donate, a massive thank you!
