My Story

I am excited to share that I will be running the 2024 London Marathon, a huge challenge and one that is on my bucket list, albeit being nervous and not feeling in any fit state right now, I know that I can and will complete this.

I am privileged to be running for the amazing charity The Samaritans, a charity who helps many of us day by day, I have used there support to help with family and friends that have been through some very tough experiences and thankfully come out of them on the other side, however I am not stupid and understand that some people do not see a better side and unfortunately end their life, I want to be able to show people that you can believe in tomorrow and take life day by day and speak out to people, we are here to help, support and just listen when you are ready to talk.

The Samaritans are a great support to my work as well providing guidance on dealing with suicidal contacts and advising on what you can do to help if you think someone is in danger or look vulnerable. They have supported me and built my confidence to speak to people more and not avoid the taboo subject of suicide, mental health and anxiety and to understand that it is ok not to be ok.

It is my time to give back to this charity and support the amazing work they do to support us all, one of the biggest challenges I will face in my life, but I am excited to get into my training and work towards achieving this personal goal.

If you have got this far, thank you for taking the time to read my story, I would really appreciate a donation towards this great cause, no matter how big or small, it all goes towards making the world a happy place and helping others feel safe and understanding there is tomorrow.

I will be providing updates along my training journey and sharing my story on a separate page @melsmarathonmadness if you wish to follow me on my journey. Any encouragement, support and motivation is welcomed from all levels.

Samaritans is here for anyone struggling to cope – day or night, 365 days a year. We take action to prevent people reaching crisis point, helping people find ways to cope and learn the skills to be there for others. We campaign to make suicide prevention a priority.

Samaritans is a charity working across the UK and Ireland and we need donations to help fund our life-saving work.
