My Story
Just before Christmas my Sister-in-law Zoe, was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer, and following emergency surgery she is now receiving chemotherapy at the Beatson in Glasgow.
The Beatson Cancer Charity is an incredible source of support to her and the thousands of people that are affected by cancer. The charity keeps the patients going with the kindest smiles, lunch, teas, coffee and biscuits on a daily basis, making sure they are cared for even when snoozing through their treatment. They take a holistic approach to care, providing a calm wellbeing space that does not feel like a hospital and offer complementary therapies to make you feel better when you are at your worst. Providing a wig service, they also offer practical support with how to handle hair loss, scalp care and regrowth when the time comes. Over and above that, they are well informed about other organisations that can help with the specifics of your diagnosis and other support centres too.
The Beatson Cancer Charity offers so much more that you might realise, behind the scenes. Having celebrated their 10 year birthday in February, you can read more about the successes over the last decade here; https://www.beatsoncancercharity.org/big-10/. Donations have helped fund equipment for treatment including specialist equipment for children, groundbreaking cancer trials, and services that go beyond what can be described here.
Please sponsor me to run the London Marathon and keep the incredible work of the Beatson Cancer Charity going for those who need it.
