My Story

I am excited to be running the London Marathon on 21st April 2024.  This is my first marathon and as I train towards it, I will run my first 10k and half marathons too. I have a lot of training ahead of me and it currently feels a daunting task!

I am proud to be raising money for Mencap. Mencap is a UK charity for people with a learning disability. I have grown up with Jamie, a family friend, who has Down Syndrome. Over the years I have watched how the opportunities he has had, have helped develop his skills and experiences. For example he has been able to attend a University for young people with special needs. This provided him with the opportunity to experience independent living in a safe way and develop important life skills! Jamie has also had the opportunity to perform in competitions with an acting group and is currently working towards his DOfE Gold award.

It is so important that everyone has opportunities and learning disabilities should not be the barrier that they so often are. Right now, people with a learning disability face inequalities in every area of life with almost 1 in 3 young people with a learning disability spending less than 1 hour outside their home on a typical Saturday. I want to ensure that Jamie, and others like him continue to gain access to the opportunities that enable them to lead their best lives.
