My Story

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. It isn’t a single condition, but a group of conditions that affect the structure of the heart and reduce its ability to pump blood around the body. Around 1 in 250 people in the UK are affected. The scary thing about this condition is that in some cases sudden cardiac death is the first symptom of the illness.

My dad and I have chosen to support this charity as my boyfriend's family have been affected immensily by Cardiomyopathy. My boyfriend's brother Ryon, was playing football and collapsed suddenly, he sadly later passed away in hospital. Ryon had undiagnosed cardiomyopathy. He was only 18 years of age, he loved gymnastics, playing football, being with his friends and spending time with his siblings. Whenever anyone who knew him talks about him their face lights up. Sadly I never had the oppourtunity to meet Ryon but I can tell how much he was loved and adored by those close to him. I have heard so many amazing stories about the incredible person he was.

Following this tragic event my boyfriends family were also tested for the condition to which they have found a large majority of them have cardiomyopathy. Following this most of them have been fitted with internal defibrillators. This incredible technology may one day save their lives.

This amazing charity not only supports people with the condition but also pioneers research that may change the way people live with cardiomyopathy and potentially save lifes. We are running to raise funds for this amazing charity but also to raise awareness of symptoms to hopefully save a life.
