Running the London Marathon for Afghanaid - Nina
My Story
I am excited to be running the 2024 London Marathon for Afghanaid.
Many of you will know that supporting vulnerable communities in Afghanistan means a lot to me. Over the past few years, it has been a privilege to have worked on designing policies and funding to welcome tens of thousands of Afghan families to the UK. Working with charities on the ground has been eyeopening, including last year while volunteering in refugee camps in Greece where I heard the stories of Afghan families taking desperate measures to seek safety following the Taliban's regain of power.
Having such a love for running as a female feels particularly pertinent, as Afghan women have seen deepening restrictions on their freedoms including being banned from sports and going to the gym.
Afghanaid have imense reach and they have worked for forty years helping communities through humanitarian emergencies, cripling food shortages, and natural disasters.
Running is my happy place and this isn't my first (and won't be my last) marathon! Even so, receiving donations from friends and family makes the commitment so much more worthwhile.
Thanks so much in advance,
Nina
