My Story

You will know I have never been the most athletic individual with my short legs and casual demeanour; however, I am throwing caution to the wind and will be running the London Marathon 2024 for the YHA charity. This will be my first ever marathon so I will be spending the next several months running through all weather conditions around Nottinghamshire with a red face. Apart from running for a fantastic charity, my training will also keep me relatively fit in my midlife crisis years.

The Youth Hostels Association (YHA) as a charity focuses on improving physical and mental health, well-being and life skills through travel and real adventure. Through their accommodation, they enrich the lives of all their guests, and make a great difference to young people, especially those coping with challenges that mean they otherwise miss out. The YHA helps all, to a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside, and appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities, particularly by providing youth hostels or other accommodation for young people on their travels and thus promoting their health, recreation and education.

When I was 16, I went youth hostelling to York with a friend and had a fantastic experience, having the freedom to explore and experience a different city. This instilled in me a love for travel and adventure. I firmly believe that by going out and exploring and experiencing the world we can enrich our lives for the better. All money I raise by completing the London Marathon will go directly to the YHA to support them with their ongoing charitable mission to provide more people with new opportunities and to learn from and experience more of the world through travel. Without the YHA, travel would be out of reach for many people.

 Thanks for your support.
