My Story
So I'm late to the fundraising party and sadly the training party but I'm going for it again...I had so much fun last year and raised so much money for the National Autistic Society that I applied again and got a place.
However, I got covid in November and it knocked me sideways. Ever since then my cardio has been awful. I was total out of breath just walking up the stairs in my house! So despite wanting to train over winter there was no way! I really wasn't sure whether I'd be able to participate this year and hence I've done no fund raising as thought I was going to have to defer or drop out.
Reflecting hard before making a decision, I realised how hard it is to get a place and how important it is for the National Autistic Society to raise money, that I thought I'd pull up my big boy pants and do my best....even if that means walking it.
I've done several 5K runs since mid Feb and a couple of 10Ks in the last week. Lungs and breathing a bit of a challenge but I'll get through this. Hopefully your donations (hint hint!) will give me the encouragement I need!?!? Not going to be any record breaking times but participating and raising funds is the goal now!
As many of those close to me will know I'm running for a charity close to my heart. My daughter is autistic and that doesn't (in my mind) means she's disabled. It just means she sees and experiences the world slightly differently to the me (albeit the rest of my family might conclude I'm undiagnosed autistic also!!). She takes things literally, she experiences emotion very vividly and publicly, she's incredibly academic, very very talented when it comes to all things musical theatre and I'm very proud of what she has achieved in her life to date and what she will achieve as she continues to thrive.
Since my daughter was diagnosed a couple of years ago, I've become a lot more aware of the importance of support for those who are autistic, their families and the great work that the National Autistic Society do to help, educate and create a better, more inclusive society.
I appreciate that there are always good causes out there to sponsor, but I'd be grateful if you could spare a few quid and sponsor me! Hopefully I'll reach my target and all donations no matter what the size, together with your words of encouragement will help me! Thanks in advance!
