My Story

My name is Ravi. I’m 39 years old, a husband, dad to two children under four, a trainee paediatrician and researcher based in Exeter.

This past year or so has been one of immense highs and lows. In December 2022, just five weeks after welcoming my son into the world, I came down with pneumonia, which quickly progressed to sepsis. I spent a week in the hospital fighting for my health.

During my stay and having further scans and tests, doctors discovered an incidental finding - a small tumour on my right kidney. I had renal cell carcinoma. I underwent a partial nephrectomy in February 2023 to remove the cancerous part of my kidney.

The surgery was a success but the months of illness and recovery have been challenging. I found solace and support from my local charity, FORCE They helped care for my family while I was in hospital, in the initial period of getting home, through my surgery and they have continued to offer guidance, resources and a listening ear as I have adjusted to life after cancer.

Their kindness inspired me to give back. In May 2023, just three months after the nephrectomy, I defied my doctor's expectations and took part in the Exeter Great West Run, setting a new personal best time for the half marathon. The achievement gave me momentum for an even greater goal - to run the London Marathon in 2024 to raise funds for FORCE.

I have been training hard ever since and FORCE has been with me every step of the way. Their support has helped me find light in some of my darkest hours. On April 21st 2024, I will take on the marathon challenge in aid of this amazing charity. Please support my fundraiser - your donation will help FORCE continue helping people in our community who face health battles and hard times like I have.
