My Story

I do not take for granted the fact that I am not disabled, but instead feel privileged to be able to help others less fortunate than me.  I hope that other able-bodied people feel as lucky as I do, and are therefore also inspired to support Activity Alliance’s good work in giving disabled people the same opportunities. Did you know that:

  • Disability covers a wide range of impairment groups including mobility; stamina, breathing, fatigue; hearing; vision; learning; and mental health; and in England is increasing, currently affecting one in five (22%) of the population across all groups (children, working-age adults, pensioners).
  • Activity Alliance’s Annual Survey finds that four in five (77%) of disabled people would like to be more active yet only one in five (20%) have taken part in organised activity in the last year.
  • The Barriers to Participation in Sport include physical and logistical factors, but that the most influential barrier to prevent disabled people participating was psychological.

I'm therefore raising funds for Activity Alliance in their work to enable people with disabilities to be and stay active through a variety of programs including inclusive activity guidance for Health Care professionals; inclusive activity training for schools and community groups; planning and delivery of inclusive events; marketing and communication; research; as well as maintaining other Activity Alliance established initiatives such as the Get Out Get Active (GOGA) program.

I believe it is essential that society continues to evolve to ensure disabled people are included as equal citizens to non-disabled people in all activities and sport, and therefore have a better quality of life. I hope that you too will be inspired to support the work of Activity Alliance, both in your generosity as well as by forwarding this page and encouraging others to follow your kindness.  Thank you sooo much!!
