Rory runs the 2024 London Marathon for Young Lives vs Cancer
Rory Gauld
My Story
After running that painful, rainy half marathon in 2020 in memory of my good friend JB, I haven't learned my lesson. I am thrilled/terrified to be running for the Young Lives vs Cancer (previously known as CLIC Sargent) team in the 2024 LONDON MARATHON...
Since I'll be running double the distance compared to last time, it's only fair I double my target too...
Young Lives vs Cancer is a fabulous charity that has helped a couple of people close to me. The work they do in supporting not only young people with cancer, but their families and friends too, is invaluable.
Every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Young Lives vs Cancer helps families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.
So for the next 8 months of training, if you have any spare pennies, please consider donating. For the cost of a pint (£5 outside of London, £82 in London😉 ), you could be supporting a young person with cancer and their families with all the chaos, emotions, pain, and heartache that comes with cancer.
- £15 could pay for a social worker to support a child or young person facing cancer and their family right from diagnosis
- £30 could help fund essential technology to provide support remotely to young people and families when they need it.
- £100 could pay towards a financial grant to ensure families facing money worries can pay for basics like food, heating or travel costs.
I'll be recording my training over the next 8 months of my Instagram, please enjoy watching me sweat and go through the horror of giving up pints to focus on training.
Why am I running this?
I lost a very good friend to Leukemia in May 2020. A friend who fought so bloody hard for so long and who initially beat Leukemia's stupid dickhead face multiple times.
His name is Jon Barnett (JB), a man who continuously and relentlessly sent me encouraging and silly messages and phone calls to make my day, even when he was going through the most intense sickness and treatment. I am truly inspired by him and miss him every day.

SO GIVE THESE LOVELY LOT AT YOUNG LIVES VS CANCER YOUR MONEY.
