My Story

Three years ago, I embarked on a deeply personal journey as a Samaritans volunteer. This decision was driven by significant challenges in my life and losing people in my life to suicide. I'm now determined to support and raise funds by running a marathon for Samaritans, the organisation that played a pivotal role in my life during a challenging period and continues to change and save the lives of others!

Samaritans provided invaluable support during a difficult time and losing people to suicide inspired me to create the 'Mental Elf' initiative in December 2020. Dressed as an elf for an entire month, I aimed to spark conversations, raise funds, and break down the stigma surrounding mental health. This campaign allowed me to open up about my own struggles, including seeking help from Samaritans after losing my grandad.

Breaking the stigma around reaching out for help and supporting Samaritans is vital. I'm proud of my journey from seeking help to becoming a Samaritans volunteer. I understand the importance of this work and the impact it can have on people's lives.

Volunteering has given me a unique perspective on my own life and a deeper sense of gratitude. Even on challenging days, it reminds me to appreciate the time I spend with my cherished family and friends.

My experience has been transformative, marked by personal growth, heartfelt gratitude, and self-improvement. I am now honored to be there for others during their moments of vulnerability and need. Every step I take and every pound I raise can help train more volunteers, answer more calls for help, and ultimately save lives.

Running for Samaritans in the 2024 TCS London Marathon is an opportunity to demonstrate that, no matter what people are facing, Samaritans will face it with them. Together, we believe in tomorrow and saving lives.

AND it's a massive personal challenge for me!!
