Running for Remembrance and Hope: The London Marathon for Rhea

Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,

As the headteacher of Mount Stewart Federation Primary School, I am reaching out to you with a cause that is profoundly close to our hearts. We are embarking on a journey of hope and remembrance sparked by the life of a remarkable child, Rhea, who was a cherished member of our Mount Stewart family.

In April 2023, we faced an unimaginable loss when Rhea, at just six years old, passed away from DIPG -   https://dipg.org/facts/what-is-dipg/ a rare and aggressive brain tumour. Rhea's battle was one of tremendous courage; her beautiful smile and unwavering bravery touched everyone who knew her. She was a fighter in every sense of the word, and her spirit continues to inspire us.

To honour Rhea's memory and to support children facing similar battles, I have committed to running a series of marathons this year, including the prestigious London Marathon. This endeavour isn't just about physical endurance; it's a mission to raise awareness about DIPG and to provide support to children with cancer and their families who are navigating this challenging journey.

The impact of Rhea's life and her loss has been deeply felt across our school community. We all are united in our desire to support this cause, not just in remembrance of Rhea but also to offer hope and assistance to others in similar situations. Rhea, forever six, remains in our hearts and memories, a guiding light in our efforts.

We invite you to join us in this meaningful cause. Your support, whether through donation, helping with fundraising, spreading awareness, or words of encouragement, will make a significant difference. Together, we can turn our collective sorrow into a force for good, honouring Rhea's memory and aiding those in need.

Let us run and fundraise money together for Rhea, for hope, and for a future where no child has to face such a battle alone.

With heartfelt thanks,

Sally Newing Headteacher, Mount Stewart Federation
