My Story
Wow! an unexpected, last-minute place in the London Marathon....and I said yes!
I remember even as a child watching the London Marathon on TV and being overwhelmed by the amazing efforts, passion, kindness and achievements of so many people. Classing myself as a "non-runner" and a "heavy plodder" at best, I never thought it would be something that would be within my reach. however, I am lucky to be fit, able and well and with a half marathon under my belt I'm going to give it all I've got! Sometimes it's about turning a negative into a positive and trying to make a difference.
I have chosen to run for Alzheimer's Research UK because last year my mum was diagnosed with the disease. I know the journey we are on as she is not the only person in our family to have lived with dementia. I know the journey will be hard but it is our journey and we will face whatever comes together. She has done a wonderful job of caring for others in our family and I hope we can be there for her just as much.
Advances in research now mean that medication for dementia is a possibility It really is a game changer. People are "living with dementia" and because of the determination, skill hard work and tenacity to find a cure, there is hope for the future.
Everyone needs hope. Thank you ARUK.
Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.
