My Story

I am running to raise vital funds for the National Autistic Society because it is a charity very close to my heart for personal and professional reasons.

Izzy, my teenage daughter, has struggled for years to get the help she needs to understand her diagnosis and get the correct support in place. NAS are fighting this same cause nationwide.

She, like many other children I work with daily, depend on the work of the NAS to be their voice.

As a headteacher, I am too familiar with how 'the system' can often fail children. I am committed to do everything I can on a daily basis to ensure all voices are heard, and all children's needs are met. That's why the work of NAS is so important. They work hard to champion the rights and interests of autistic people (and their families), making sure national policy and legislation reflect their needs.

The National Autistic Society is calling on the Government to:

  • Set up a taskforce to ensure all autistic children are in a school which meets their support needs.
  • Make sure all school staff receive autism training.
  • Provide more Cullum Centres, which help autistic students to succeed in mainstream schools
  • Co-produce strategies at local and national level with autistic people and their families.

More information on NAS #leteveryautisticchildlearn campaign can be found here: https://www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/campaign/education

Your support to this cause is vital for ensuring the campaign is a success.

This is my first ever marathon and my first 'long run' since popping my Achilles in 2020 and then having Mabel in 2021 so it will certainly be a significant challenge!

Thank you for your support and kind words of encouragement
