My Story

This year, I am incredibly lucky to be running the TCS London Marathon for The Genesis Trust, Bath and The Mendip School. Running a marathon has always been at the top of my bucket list and to be able to do so whilst raising money for two incredible causes is a real honour!

The Genesis Trust exists to offer immediate practical help to people who are homeless and vulnerable, and provide long-term help and opportunities for them through our interlinked projects to rebuild their lives. Genesis Trust work individually with people on their journey from despair to hope, from crisis to independence.

As a Christian charity, Genesis works with local churches and volunteers in the wider community in Bath and the surrounding area to help disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals and families to change their lives.

Genesis Trust do this by meeting their immediate needs, providing compassionate help and journeying with them as they gain confidence, learn new skills, overcome challenges, improve their prospects, and make choices for themselves to restore and rebuild their lives.

Genesis Trust provide and enable a range of practical and person-centred support services to help people in need develop healthier lifestyles and overcome poverty in all its forms. We recognise that poverty is not just about lacking material resources but can encompass a lack of relationships and network of support, and a lack of identity and purpose.

As many of you know, The Mendip School is my place of work. I feel extremely lucky to be part of such an incredible place. TMS is a specialist setting for children and young people (aged 4-19) with a primary diagnosis of Autism and/ or Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

There are a variety of projects that we are currently fundraising for, including the development of our outside spaces to include playground equipment, shelters and therapeutic rooms.

The money I raise will be split between these two very worthy causes. This has not been an easy journey so far. Over summer and into autumn I was held back by lots of niggles in training which after a lot of support from specialists, are largely under control. Being determined to make this happen, regular visits to the specialists, new trainers, enough rock tape to sink a ship and a detailed warm up routine and I’m now well into my training plan and the goal feels achievable!

Follow my strava page for regular updates on training to see how I’m getting on.

Thank you so much for your support!
