My Story

Eight years ago a treatment became available that could improve my father's health dramatically at the measly cost of £40k.. and so began my running journey.

I decided there and then I was going to run the London Marathon, because it was the only run I had ever heard of and sounded insane to run 26.2 miles! Unfortunately I didn't get in and soon discovered that I was infact mistaken and there were lots of other races around the country, which resulted in my trying out ultra running. And so the madness began.

But regardless of the distance, I have applied for the London Marathon every year because for me that is where it all started. And finally I'm going to do it!!!

Unfortunately my dad passed away before I could raise enough for his treatment, so the £5000 we had went instead to Blind Veterans UK. My dad had lost his eye sight due to MS, not whilst he was serving his country, but that didn't matter to Blind Veterans. They were an unwavering support in my fathers final years, and in the years since loosing him. Nothing we needed was ever too much. During visits at the Llandudno Centre I personally witnessed how the staff treated the other veterans in their care, saw their kindness and compassion.

My running has taken a break in the last year as I myself have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, so adjusting to th lifestyle changes, joint pain and chemotherapy has been challenging. But I finally have the all clear from my rheumatologist to get back into training!

I don't have the ability to put into words and fully articulate how I feel about Blind Veterans but I do have the ability to run and a stubborn attitude, and will devote my life to supporting this charity, to thank them for everything they have done and continue to do for those that have served our country.
