My Story
Hi, I am running London Marathon 2024 to help raise money for a little known, but great charity, VICTA, who really do as they say and help empower children who are blind or partially sighted. As many of you will know my son, Harry, has Nystagmus and is partially sighted - with the help of the guys at VICTA we were received accessible technology which was not available through primary school or Devon County Council. The Dolphin software allowed him to utilise the RNIB digital library which in turn developed his love of reading. Without charities such as VICTA, Harry and many children like him, would have had to struggle through primary school thinking that there is no help for them, which is criminal!! But there is help for them and I want to try and help them to keep providing for these children by running the London Marathon 2024 and raising as much money as I possibly can. Please help by sponsoring or donating as much as you are able and more importantly spread the word of this great team!! Now for a little about VICTA....
VICTA is a small but national charity in the UK that empowers children and young adults who are blind or partially sighted and their families. Aware that feelings of isolation and loneliness are dominant within the world of visual impairment, VICTA use activity-based learning as a positive setting for social interaction. For the blind and partially sighted young people, involvement in team-based activities can be positively associated with social acceptance and a sense of belonging, especially where such involvement is characterised by positive coaching, progressive skill development and peer support. VICTA work hard to help young people question limiting presumptions they might have, helping them to view themselves and their potential in a new way. VICTA want them to be able to make a difference to their own lives.
thank you - Steve
