My Story

Hello everyone,

I am delighted to have been selected to run for MacMillan Cancer Support in this year’s London Marathon 2024.

As well as trying to lose a few pounds there is an extremely meaningful reason why I have chosen to take part this year.  Cancer sadly impacts us all in some form or another.  According to the NHS 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime.

Unfortunately, I sadly lost my mum Carol Petts to Cancer back in 2016 after years of her battling with various different types.  Throughout all of her treatment she somehow remained so upbeat, positive and always had a smile on her face, no matter what was thrown her way.

Then in September last year my dad Ken Petts was diagnosed with Mesothelioma which came completely out of the blue.  But just like my mum, my dad is doing such an amazing job at staying positive, handling all the treatment so well and battling on.

Having two parents / role models with such positivity and resilience is truly inspirational and I am running next year’s London Marathon in memory of my lovely mum Carol Ann Petts, to continue to support my dad Ken Petts and for everyone else who can relate to my story.

I have already started my training and linked my Strava account to this page so you can follow my progress.

I know times are challenging for everyone right now but if you can spare some money and make a small donation to Macmillan Cancer Support I would be extremely greatful.

Thank you for reading,

Steve
