My Story

Now that the dust has settled, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your support and generosity in supporting my 24 hour challenge for Lepra’s centenary. It has been an epic journey from finishing the London Marathon in April to getting my body and mind ready to run 100 miles. Conditions were perfect throughout the weekend and organisationally all went smoothly, I was also lucky to have amazing support from family, friends and fellow club runners both on and off the course. I averaged a lap an hour from midday Saturday to midnight which took me to 60 miles at the halfway stage, I was then able to count down both distance and time as I continued through the night, by the time the sun came up I had about a marathon to go and knew I could reach my goal. It was tougher mentally than physically, until the last lap when everything started aching even at a relatively slow walking pace! I crossed the line, with 15 minutes to spare, just before midday on Sunday to earn the coveted 100 Miler T-Shirt. More importantly thanks to your kindness I have also hit my target of £2400 for Lepra, which will make a massive difference to combating this cruel disease in some of the poorest communities in India and Bangladesh.

Many thanks again for your support it is very much appreciated, Tom

I've seen first hand the devastating effect Leprosy has on some of the world's poorest communties. In the 21st Century this shouldn't be the case, especially when the disease is relatively easily and cheaply cured, but each day 600 people (of which 50 will be children) get diagnosed and often ostracised from society. I'm proud to be Lepra's Challenge Ambassador and as part of their centenary year I've set myself the challenge of running 24 hours and aiming for 100 miles. Please support and spread the word! Thank you, Tom
