My Story

I am really proud to be entering this years London Marathon and for the chance to raise money for a charity that helps young people and adults with a hearing loss like me.

So I will be running on behalf of a charity I have recently been volunteering for called, DELTA.

DELTA stands for Deaf Education through Listening and Talking. It is run by deaf adults, parents of deaf children/young people and professionals whose aim is that deaf children, especially those who have a severe or profound hearing loss, should be able to achieve their full potential, despite their deafness.

I was born with a hearing loss and since the age of 4, I have worn 2 hearing aids to get by. My father and my son also wear hearing aids and as such, hearing loss as well as the need for surgery, has been in my family for decades.

I know well the day to day challenges when not being able to hear, from the effect it has on progress as well as confidence. I want to really help the deaf community, especially those who are really struggling to cope; from children to parents, deafness can affect us all.

At these times of cuts and a cost of living crisis, please know that education and support for the deaf and hard of hearing is under threat which is why I am fundraising for DELTA.

I would be eternally grateful for any donation in support of my aims to help others who share a similar disability as me.
