My Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I am taking part in the London Marathon 2024 for Dementia UK, in memory of my Dad, and in support of my Mum.

My Dad passed away in 2016 at hospital. A brain scan two days before his passing showed a diagnosis of Vascular Dementia. Sadly we didn’t receive his brain scan results until after his death, the late diagnosis (due to the lengthy and difficult process) meant he had been living with the condition prior to his passing. Although late, the diagnosis did provide his loved ones with closure and helped us make sense of things prior to his passing.

My Mum is currently living with Vascular Dementia after receiving an early diagnosis of the condition last year. We are lucky that my Mum’s condition has been diagnosed early, so any support needed can be provided.

I’m trying to find the balance of not sounding like an X Factor sob story (the above is just missing a Westlife instrumental), but also getting my point across as to why I’m running for Dementia UK. They are a superb charity, who provide support for all family members through specialist nursing and direct help phone lines!

Although nervous, I’m also excited to run the London Marathon and feel honoured to be running it for Dementia UK. I’ve had my sights set on running the London Marathon ever since taking part in the Sheffield Half Marathon in 2015. I always said if I'm gonna fully commit to running a Marathon, it has to be for The London Marathon. I don't do things in halves (well.. apart from my previous half marathon). 🏃‍♂️

After many refused ballot entries, I started to think it would never happen. Then last year I went to watch the London Marathon amongst the crowd. Cheering the runners on whilst hanging over the metal barrier, burger in one hand, beer in the other🍺.

Seeing everyone’s charity t shirts and hearing the cheers of support gave me the urge to secure a charity place for 2024, and a charity that’s so close to home too!

It would be great if you could donate towards the £2500 target set by Dementia UK, any donations and support will be greatly appreciated will help get me across that finish line 🏁

Many Thanks! X
