My Story
Epilepsy is a neurological condition which is caused by excessive electical activity in the brain. Fear, misunderstanding, discrimination and social stigma have surrounded epilepsy for centuries making it hard for people to talk about. I am very lucky to be running the Marathon for the incredible charity Epilepsy Society. I have finally plucked up the courage and training is well and truley under way!
I developed epilepsy when I was 17, however it wasn't until 5 years later when I started to have tonic-clonic seizures that I was diagnosed. I was unaware of the fact that there are many different types of seizures and that all the undescriable scary feelings that I had been experiencing for years weren't deja vu they were auras of temporal lobe epilesy. It then worsened and ended up affecting my life quite badly. I am very lucky as I now have it controled under medication. I now know my limitations of trying to help prevent a seizure however, there are many people that still suffer years on after being diagnosed.
We are trying to use our brains to understand the brain but through world-leading research this is one of the wonderful charities that provides incredible support to help transform the lives of people living with epilepsy. I can't thank you enough for supporting Epilepsy Society.
